QUESTION: What is the difference between green, red, orange and yellow peppers? Mandy (Rosenort)

ANSWER: Green peppers are harvested before they are fully ripe, which is why they are less expensive than other peppers. Green peppers turn yellow and then red. Red bell peppers contain 11 times more beta-carotene, and more vitamin C than green peppers.

QUESTION: What is the best way to clean copper pots and pans? Andrea, Winnipeg

ANSWER: Combine half and half salt and vinegar to remove stains. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water and polish. You may also scrub copper with a lemon, ketchup or WD-40 to remove stains, or dip the bottom of the pot in pickle juice for 10 or 15 minutes.

QUESTION: I spilled an oil aroma diffuser on my beautiful copper table. I panicked and quickly wiped up the mess and used furniture polish to get rid of the leftover mess. Well some weird chemical reaction occurred causing a marbled orange patina look. The copper faded in some spots where the oil was. I have no warranty on the table and so I can't return it. Help, what a mess! Joey, Winnipeg

ANSWER: If this ever happens again, avoid the temptation to add additional chemicals onto copper. Often if you wipe it and leave it, the chemical will dry on its own and less damage will occur. Your best bet is to seek out a copper patina repair kit or contact a professional furniture repair person for assistance.

QUESTION: What is the fastest way to make a baked potato, in the microwave or in the oven? Wendy, Winnipeg

ANSWER: The microwave wins on speed but the oven wins for taste. If you bake potatoes in the oven, preheat the oven and bake them for one to one and a half hours at 400 degrees. For microwave baking, pierce all sides of the potato so that it doesn't explode. Bake for five minutes, flip and bake for another five minutes.

Fabulous Tips of the Week!

I recently attended a garden party and soup was one of the food courses. The soup was served to us in those ornate fancy cups and saucers we all received as wedding shower gifts or wedding gifts in the '50s. Thought this was a wonderful way of using the cups and saucers. The amount in the serving was just great too, not too much or too little. Thought I'd pass this along. Submitted By: E.

Save foil butter and margarine wrappers to wrap potatoes for baking. They'll be deliciously crunchy.
