If you're moving -- and with Winnipeg's still-sizzling real estate market, who isn't? -- there's another option in moving and storage that's just arrived in Winnipeg.
Personal on Demand Storage combines large truck containers with pickup and drop-off service and, if needed, a secure storage facility.
"We just started our outlet in Winnipeg at the end of June, and the response has been awesome," says Curtis Schroh, co-owner of PODS Winnipeg, whose storage complex is located at 1725 Inkster Boulevard. "Our customers love how simple the process is."
This is how the PODS concept works: A large container capable of holding up to 15,000 pounds of items that need to be stored or moved is delivered to your home. The delivery truck then lowers the container to ground level to make it that much easier to ferry the various items into the container, which is made of marine-grade plywood with an aluminum coating reinforced by a steel frame.
Once everything is packed, PODS will either deliver it to your new residence or put the items in storage at its secure storage facility. PODS can also deliver to cities across North America for customers moving to new cities. Initial delivery of the container ranges from $219 for a seven-foot container to $293.95 for a 16-foot container and includes pickup and drop-off and one month's rental for loading.
"The containers are quite large, so you can get all kinds of stuff into them. So far, people have just loved the concept. Being on ground level, it makes it easy to put the stuff in, and because you call for pickup for the move or storage, you can take your time packing. It's been a hit both in the city and in rural areas," he says.
Not only does PODS simplify the potentially onerous task of moving and storage, but it's also very affordable, adds Schroh.
"Our rates start as low as $100 a month," he says. "We can also refer you to packers if you'd like help with packing, and we're working on our own line of moving and storage accessories, which will be available soon. Eventually, we'll have three storage depots in Winnipeg, but for now, our main facility will be on Inkster Boulevard."
