A Luxury Camping Oasis

With the warmth of spring finally here and summer not far off, thoughts move to getting up close and personal with the great outdoors. And after a long prairie winter there's always a longing for all things green and an eagerness to get out and about under a big blue sky. Manitoba's countless natural wonders invite us to explore and appreciate, but there's increasing interest in taking things one step further, like laying down roots and making a home in a place that merges the natural world with the comforts and conveniences of city life.

One such place is CherryHill, a lakeside RV and park model community located 45 minutes from Winnipeg, and five minutes east of Steinbach. The drive to CherryHill highlights the pretty prairie landscape that Manitoba is famous for, and increases as you enter into an oasis that has everything you'll ever need. Loads of green space, forested areas, walking trails, open, peaceful - the best that the prairies have to offer.

"Swimming in the lake, taking a stroll around the park, chatting with neighbours along the way, cooking supper outside on the deck, sitting on the sand, or around a fire pit and watching the sunset with friends," that's the perfect summer day at CherryHill, says Joan Fehr, who manages the property with her husband Harry.

With man-made lakes popping up around Manitoba, CherryHill has created something attractive and unique. The half-mile-long lake is a central feature at CherryHill. No matter the vantage point, a glimpse of it has one inhaling fresh air and exhaling whatever stresses may have been present before gazing upon it.

The image once conjured of a trailer park is now something very different. A vibrant community with amenities, and high esthetic standards. CherryHill is a world unto itself, with country comforts, and city conveniences.

Family-owned and operated, CherryHill is an oasis, secluded from the stress of everyday city life but still close to an urban centre, allowing for easy access to all amenities. Joan and Harry Fehr have been dedicated to the development and expansion of the property that's been in their family for many years. Since purchasing it in 1998, they've been preparing the land to accommodate their vision of the CherryHill community.

From its original 13 sites on the west side of the lake in 2005 to its current 136 sites, the couple is eagerly working at plans to expand the 104 acres to accommodate many more units and to ultimately create a four-season park. The increasing demand for this type of living arrangement has been seen in other places as well.

"The plan has always been to grow into a full size RV and park model community. If you look at British Columbia and Ontario, the trends are already apparent there and Manitoba is usually close behind," adds Fehr.

The CherryHill community is fast becoming the place to call home. And it's not only the older generation attracted by this type of living arrangement.

"We are creating a movement of people moving into the next phase of their lives, with affordable housing. There are baby boomers, snowbirds, families with young children. Some of our families have three generations living at CherryHill. It is a quiet relaxed lifestyle that all ages enjoy," said Joan Fehr.

CherryHill is a place to live a good life. To relax. To have fun. To find balance. And there's always something to do.

Mindfully structured and designed to emphasize the lake's beauty, the RVs, Park Models and various motor homes surround it. Each lot has its own natural privacy wall in the form of a row of trees. It's a place to come to, knowing that all details have been looked after.

CherryHill is methodically put together, meticulously structured and organized so there's really nothing to do but show up and enjoy everyday life.

Today's RV park model features different styles, from large, more extravagant units to the sleek and modern design, to the less expensive units; yet there's a shared sense of aesthetics which makes for an appealing place for everyone. The strong sense of community ensures a pleasant living arrangement for all residents.

There are different structural styles, featuring patios, gazebos, decks, sunrooms, and sheds. The lots are approximately 50 x 75, and the largest unit is 540 square feet, all CSA (Canadian Standards Association) approved. There’s a public playground, public dock, an internet tower, recycling, and community laundry facilities. They've thought of everything.

Lots are available for lease from April 15th to October 15th, in five or six month time slots. CherryHill offers an affordable, convenient, alternative country lifestyle with all the city amenities you need minutes away. Nearby golf courses and a short drive to Manitoba’s Whiteshell and Ontario’s Lake of the Woods vacation country makes summer living a dream for active people who like the freedom of a simpler, less-urban lifestyle.
