New Homes

An association is only as strong as its members

Lanny McInnes, president and CEO of the Manitoba Home Builders Association, says the MHBA is strengthened by engaged members.

Last night, the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association (MHBA) held its annual Fall Parade of Homes Gala at the RBC Winnipeg Convention Centre. More than 700 people were slated to attend the Gala to celebrate and recognize the winning entries in this year’s Fall Parade of Homes. Joe Aiello was once again the scheduled emcee for the evening — his wit and genuine enthusiasm for our sector makes him the perfect host for our annual Fall Gala.

This year, there were 29 separate categories in the Fall Parade of Homes and gold, silver or bronze awards were given out to the homes deemed the best in each category by our volunteer judges. The Parade award winners were determined by a mix of Parade judging panels that reviewed the electronic submissions from each entrant and judging panels who visited each of the Parade homes. Once again, the judging was extremely close in all of the categories. This is not surprising when you consider that our volunteer judges are faced with choosing a winner from an incredible selection of the best-designed, best-built and best-displayed new homes in Canada.

The evening was also a chance for the MHBA to celebrate our 80th anniversary as the voice of the residential construction industry in Manitoba. Past chairs of the MHBA and Parade Committee members were scheduled to attend — making this a celebration in recognition of those people who have given so much to this association.

The first four categories of awards were for condominiums. These included bungalows and apartment-style condos. The 25 remaining categories were for single-family detached homes. These distinct categories are based on style (townhouse, bungalow and two-storey) and price range.

One of the key messages of the evening is always association membership. The strength of the MHBA comes from the support and engagement of its members. MHBA members are the leaders and community builders in our province’s residential construction sector. Those in attendance were encouraged to hire and buy from other MHBA members and to promote membership to those who have displayed excellence in the industry.

To view all of the entries, go to the website of the MHBA — homebuilders.mb.ca. In addition to pictures of all of the homes entered in the Fall Parade, you can still also find a digital copy of the Fall Parade of Homes Magazine.

You can follow the MHBA on Facebook and on Twitter (@MBHomebuilders), to see each of the gold, silver and bronze award-winning homes profiled over the next month.

Remember, the show homes featured in the Parade and honoured at the Gala are still open for viewing even after the Parade of Homes has concluded.
