There’s plenty of space to create in the functional, attractive island kitchen in Randall Homes’ Bison Run dwelling.
As any home builder knows, first impressions matter, big time.
First, a prospective buyer must like the look of a home; that’s what prompts them to enter it to see what it looks like inside.
Once inside, it generally takes someone around 10 seconds to decide if the home’s interior measures up to its exterior, in their estimation. If the impression is positive and curiosity is aroused, they will venture in further to take a longer look.
Should the impression be unfavourable, they may come in to take a cursory look — or they may just turn around and leave. It can be that cut-and-dried.
Suffice it to say, Randall Homes’ new show home at 176 Ruth Crossing in Bison Run creates a positive impression right from the get-go.
“It’s a good looking home with its two-tone exterior and angled roofline,” says Dave Mick, new homes sales consultant for the 1,433-sq.-ft., two-storey home. “The horizontal siding really frames the windows, and the acrylic stucco looks amazing. That’s what draws you in. But once you come inside you realize its interior is as good, or even better, than its exterior.”
As it turns out, the reason for that is very simple: a ton of detail went into designing its layout and the finishes that surround the great room, kitchen and eating area.
In this instance, it was critical to get the layout just right.
With under 1,500 sq. ft. to work with, Randall’s design team had to be spot-on with space distribution, selection of finishes and the placement of windows.
“I think one of the keys to this home’s appeal is that it’s a naturally bright home,” he says. “One of Randall’s calling cards is the size of the windows they put in their homes, and you can see that here — huge windows at either end of the main living area let in tons of natural light. That creates a light, airy feel that’s very appealing.”
At the same time, that uplifting ambience is complemented by a wonderful feeling of space, which comes directly from the well-thought-out floor plan.
“That feeling of space comes from how well the available space has been utilized. Each space, from the great room to the kitchen and then the dining area is well defined. Most importantly, there’s room to move between each space, and within each space,” Mick says. “You never feel boxed in.”
Several subtle design touches aid in creating that impressive feeling of space. Look carefully at the great room, and after a moment taking things in you notice its rear wall was cantilevered to set the windows back about a foot. Then, the side wall — which comes with a stylish teal backdrop — was set back about two-and-a-half feet.
The same clever, space-saving technique was also used in the kitchen, where the cabinets were placed in a cantilevered alcove that simultaneously defined the cabinetry and opened up space. “All those neat design features combine to create an area that has a great balance of space, style and livability. Best of all, most of the warm finishes you see — quartz countertops, tile backsplash, laminate plank flooring and windows — come standard,” Mick says. “The kitchen is very functional, and the eating area next to it is very spacious and well-placed.”
Head upstairs, and the home’s surprisingly spacious, user-friendly layout continues without missing a beat. Once again, everything fits nicely with lack of space never being an issue.
There are two large secondary bedrooms, a spacious (and beautifully finished) main bath and a privately positioned primary bedroom.
Oh, and there’s one more key space, says Mick.
“I think it’s important to note there’s a full-size laundry room rather than just a laundry closet. The amazing layout allowed for it, and it’s a great feature.”
Finally, there’s the primary bedroom which qualifies as a very pleasant surprise.
“The most common comment about it is that people loved the vaulted ceiling,” Mick says, noting it’s over 14-by-15-feet in size. “That gives it an added feel of grandness. Everyone has also loved the symmetry of the two windows on the rear wall, which adds a nice sense of style. The obscured-glass window and grey luxury vinyl-tile floor have also been a hit.”
Mick says the home’s lower level was also designed with utility in mind.
“There’s a side entrance, which makes it easy to access,” he says. “Two steel beams open up space, an eight-and-a-half-foot foundation wall provides good ceiling height and two 27-inch double slider windows add light. This is an efficient, beautifully designed home from start to finish.”
