Escape to Deer Ridge Estates

Beautiful bungalow loaded with thoughtful features

This large bungalow sits on a huge two-acre lot, and features a country-modern design that meshes perfectly with its countrified surroundings.

A spacious foyer leads into a hallway with a barn-style door that fronts a built-in office space.

A deep soaker tub and huge window are highlights of the spa-like ensuite.

Large windows on the main living area perfectly frame the countryside views.

As much as some neighbourhoods outside city limits advertise their community as providing country living, that isn’t quite the case.

In many instances, a highway runs nearby, and can either be seen or heard — or both.

So, while you are out in the country, you’re still in contact with some of the elements associated with busy city life.

In short, there isn’t a true sense of peace and isolation.

That’s not the case in Deer Ridge Estates, says Lisa Lawrence, new homes sales consultant for Foxridge Homes.

“It’s a beautiful, mature strip of land that’s just south of the Floodway and is located between Grande Pointe and Grand Pointe Meadows off Hallama Road,” she says. “You’re genuinely out in the country in a quiet, wonderfully isolated area surrounded by fields and mature trees. Yet, you’re just eight minutes from conveniences in Sage Creek.”

Lawrence adds that those looking to build a king-sized home in a truly countrified location will also appreciate another of the area’s features.

“The lots are two acres in size, so you’re not on top of each other as you are in so many new neighbourhoods in the city. There’s plenty of room to spread out and build a spacious home with a triple attached garage and generous spaces inside.”

And while the surroundings possess a distinct country flavour — you feel as if you are well outside the city, the feeling of isolation and natural beauty is so profound – the home itself is the definition of country modern.

As a prelude to what’s inside, its exterior is a mix of white and black, with black-trimmed windows and black garage doors popping on a white exterior with panel-like detailing.

Then, a lovely courtyard-like front porch with modern black railing and borders leads smartly to the front entrance, which in turn opens onto a dreamy foyer.

“It’s just spectacular with its 17-foot ceiling, chandelier and all the large windows that surround the front door both to the side and above. It gets the home off to a wonderful start with all its space, light and style.”

Things only get better from there.

A wide hallway with a built-in space to the right and magnificent paneled on the left (as you walk in) immediately seizes on the home’s alluring country modern design theme.

“The office is a fabulous space with a built-in desk, custom shelving and a wainscoted wall,” says Lawrence. “It can be closed off by a gorgeous, black barn-style door.”

Take a few steps forward, and you find yourself standing in an open concept main living area that draws you into it with its warm, inviting ambience.

“So much natural light comes inside from all the large windows that surround it,” she notes. “The extra-wide plank natural oak flooring adds a wonderful warmth, while a thoughtful, spacious layout flows naturally from space to space.”

Fittingly, the first space is a huge kitchen that deftly balances modern and rustic design themes.

“I love all the white cabinets, and how they go all the way up to the ceiling. They go beautifully with a nine-and-a-half-foot island that has a black base, a black pantry and even a black range hood and black appliances. The backsplash matches the gorgeous quartz countertops, the brushed gold fixtures look amazing and there’s even a coffee bar for good measure.”

Lawrence adds that the other spaces that comprise the main living area are quite fabulous, too.

“The great room’s entertainment unit, with its wall of windows and a linear electric fireplace set in a white tile surround, is spectacular. So is the dining area. It’s defined by a dark painted tray ceiling, and that’s next to a patio door that provides access to a huge, covered backyard deck.”

She adds that the bedroom wing — which occupies the left-hand side of the home — is an ergonomic marvel.

“It holds two large secondary bedrooms, a beautiful four-piece bath and the primary bedroom. It’s a stunning space with all its room, natural light and a luxurious, spa-like ensuite with a walk-in shower and a deep soaker tub set beneath a brushed gold chandelier and a huge window.”

Deer Ridge Estates is the neighbourhood that dreams are made of, says Lawrence.

“It gives you the opportunity to build in a naturally beautiful area that feels set well apart from the city but is only eight minutes away. You have to come out to experience it to see how much it has to offer — it’s just incredible and is a wonderful spot to build your dream home.”
