Seamless flow and rich, sensible style are the calling cards of the intelligently designed kitchen/dining area.
Spacious and bright, the second-floor loft can be used for a variety of purposes.
The secluded primary bedroom is a roomy, well-appointed retreat.
Large families typically look for two things in a new home.
First, it needs to be highly functional with a versatile floor plan that can accommodate family life — and offer spaces where individuals can go to enjoy some much needed private time.
Second, the home must offer exceptional value, ideally coming in at a price tag under $700,000.
Hilton Homes’ two-storey Lucinda design checks all these boxes and more, says company owner Spencer Curtis.
“I think the key to this home is that it’s a very efficient design,” he says. “Whenever we design a home, our main priority is always functionality. This is a very comfortable home that was designed to work for a large family.”
And while the Lucinda feels like it’s a 2,000-sq.-ft. dwelling, it’s not. Take a quick look at the home’s spec sheet, and it checks in at just over 1,700 sq. ft. This speaks to just how much thought was put into its plan.
True to form, it starts off in very practical fashion.
“The foyer is huge,” Curtis says. “That’s something a large family needs, whether everyone’s coming home at once, or if you have a bunch of visitors arrive at the same time. The door to the attached double garage was placed next to the entrance to make entry easy from the garage, too.”
Families will appreciate the feature that comes next, says Curtis, who is involved with the design of each abode Hilton builds.
“These days, there are few plans that don’t have a main-floor bedroom,” he says. “With that in mind, we put a good-sized bedroom just down from the foyer. There’s a full bath next to it, making the area perfect for a multi-generational family. If you don’t need to use it as a bedroom, it could also be an office.”
As functional as the front of the residence is, its main living area offers even more utility.
“We worked really hard to make sure each space was a good size and for flow between spaces to be as smooth as possible,” Curtis says. “At the same time, the area is nice and bright, and the finishes work together really well.”
In a nutshell, the main living area is a delight to spend time in.
The island kitchen’s layout is very user-friendly, with plenty of space to move and everything exactly where it needs to be, particularly the fridge, which was placed off to the side of a nook that could be used as a coffee bar, or in this case, as a place to store wine.
Meanwhile, the finishes are timeless with light-taupe cabinets meshing nicely with off-white quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances and a warm-toned tile backsplash. The dining area — which is just steps from the kitchen — is naturally bright and has a cantilevered area behind it that could allow for table expansion, or a sideboard or storage cabinet.
Then there’s the great room, a subtly spectacular space that finishes the main living area off in graceful style.
“It provides a nice touch of drama with its 18-foot ceiling, rear wall of windows and a simple entertainment unit with linear-electric fireplace set in a grey-tile surround next to a TV wall with storage nook below,” says Curtis. “The upper-level staircase defines it perfectly but also preserves the feeling of space with its open design.”
Take the handsome staircase upstairs — a large window was placed over it on the side wall to add more natural light — and the home’s layout becomes even more family-friendly.
“A nice, roomy loft was placed to the right of the stairs,” Curtis says. “Light floods into it from the windows in the great room, over the stairs and on its rear wall, giving it a bright, airy feel. It could be used as a space to chill in, or as a TV area for the kids.”
Parents will also like the fact the two secondary bedrooms were set well away from the primary bedroom to promote privacy.
Best of all — considering the home is “just” 1,707-sq.-ft. in size — none of the spaces upstairs feel cramped, including the second-floor laundry room and main bath. The primary bedroom is also a good size, says Curtis.
“Actually, it’s huge. It comes with a large window that lets in lots of natural light, a big walk-in closet and a luxurious ensuite with a walk-in shower with a floor-to-ceiling tile surround.”
The Lucinda checks all the boxes for a big household, Curtis says..
“It’s a comfortable, efficient home that creates options for families. It’s a versatile, stylish home that can be configured to meet their every need.”
