MHBA celebrates 85th anniversary, national award

This year marked the 85th anniversary of the Manitoba Home Builder’s Association.

From our humble beginnings in 1937 to recent historical highs in Manitoba residential construction rates, MHBA members continue to provide Manitobans with the finest quality in new home construction, home renovation work, materials, supplies, and services offered by our industry.

During this year of celebration for our association, the MHBA was proud to be named the 2022 Home Builders’ Association of the Year by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. Professionalism, leadership, stability and reliability, safety, quality, education and training, and value are the core values of the MHBA and are demonstrated by our members. This is a source of pride for all in our industry. Manitoba builders continue to be ahead of the curve in areas such as building science, energy efficiency, safety certification and professional training. And despite ongoing challenges, affordability and choice remain at the forefront of our goals.

This year, the MHBA also introduced our Membership Milestone Awards — a new way to formally celebrate and honour the dedication and commitment of its members to the association.

Award recipients ranged from five years to 85 years of membership. The 85-year milestone award recipients are companies that have been with the MHBA since the very beginning. These companies include Building Products & Concrete Supply, Furnasman New Homes, Genstar Development Partnership, Winnipeg Regional Real Estate Board and Ladco Company Ltd.

Being accepted as a MHBA member involves meeting stringent criteria and standards and considerable due diligence by other professionals in the industry. A company displaying the MHBA logo has an advantage over competitors because the public can trust it to work to a high standard. Applicants for membership are not just rated on their work and its quality, but on their stability and reliability as well.

The mission statement at the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association is to be the voice of the residential construction industry in Manitoba; to provide a forum for the ongoing education of the membership with respect to technology and business practices; to achieve an environment in which the membership can operate successfully; and to promote affordability and choice in housing for all Manitobans. Our team at the MHBA does our best to meet that mission on behalf of our members, the customers they serve, and the communities they help build.

We encourage everyone to look for the MHBA logo when choosing a residential construction company, whether you are investing in building a new home, investing in a renovation project, or choosing to use the same materials that the best builders in Canada use.

Lanny McInnes is president of the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association.
