Peaceful, easy feeling

Charleswood two-storey features a relaxing design

The exterior is clad with brick trim, two-tone acrylic stucco and low-maintenance siding.

An electric ribbon fireplace with brick surround and huge TV niche fill the family room with a rustic warmth.

A mid-sized quartz island with double sink and cut-out eating nook anchors the gorgeous country-modern kitchen in this Charleswood home.

The kitchen and dining area are bright and spacious.

A trio of white-trimmed piano windows deliver extra light into the spacious master suite.

The three-piece ensuite features a walk-in shower with glass doors.

At the end of a long day, families want to come home to a residence that exudes a peaceful, easy feeling.

As might be expected, they also desire a home that offers a seamless blend of space, style and utility.

While designing such a home is no easy task, Randall Homes feels it has accomplished this with its newest show home in RidgeWood West, says Jon Wiebe of Realty Executives First Choice.

"It all starts with an exterior that offers beautiful curb appeal," says Wiebe, who’s marketing the 1,865-sq.-ft., two-storey Carter V design with stablemate Cheryl Thurston. "An earth-tone exterior clad with brick, acrylic stucco and low-maintenance siding gives it a rich, rustic look that makes you exhale the moment you walk up to it."

The generous foyer will also take your breath away.

"The Carter V’s foyer is everything a family could want," says Wiebe. "It’s welcoming, bright and very spacious, featuring an impressive eight-foot entry door, huge, angled walk-in closet with eight-foot door and plenty of space for the family or guests to take off their coats and footwear. The eight-foot doors on the main floor are standard features."

An unobtrusive wing carved into the wall to the left of the expansive foyer then yields a powder room and lifestyle room.

"Seeing as this is the newest and largest Carter plan, the extra space built into it allowed the powder room and lifestyle room to be tucked away in a perfect spot just off the foyer," he says. "The lifestyle room makes a perfect office or in-law suite. If it’s used as an in-law suite, the powder room could easily be expanded to a four-piece bath."

From there, the foyer — which is opened up beautifully by the angled coat closet to the right and an angled wall with inset art niche to the left — flows smoothly into the Carter V’s inviting great room.

"It has a bright, open feel that comes from a combination of a nine-foot ceiling, lots of large, well-placed windows and the tall doors — the kitchen pantry also comes with an eight-foot door. The great room is literally surrounded by glass."

That glass — a pair of oversized transom windows on the dining area’s left-hand wall, a sliding patio door with transom above behind the dining area and a huge picture window in the family room — allows natural light to flood into the great room.

"The great room is just bathed in natural light, making for a space that’s bright and modern yet warm and functional," says Wiebe. "The two transom windows on the side wall and transom window over the patio door make a big difference — they add so much extra light. They allow the evening sun to flow inside, creating an incredible glow."

Meanwhile, a functional layout combines with soft, earthy pastel finishes to give the great room more of that peaceful, easy feeling.

"Every square foot of the great room is good, usable space," he says. "A mid-sized island with cut-out eating nook opens up room to move into the dining area, which right now has a table for six in it, but could easily hold a table that seats 12. The kitchen will never go out of style with its white cabinets, taupe tile backsplash and its light taupe quartz countertops."

The adjacent family room complements the kitchen and dining area perfectly.

"I just love its entertainment unit with its electric ribbon fireplace with its two-tone brick surround, Thunder oak trim and generous TV niche above. It’s very clean and has a warm, rustic look that ties in beautifully with the home’s exterior."

An extra-wide staircase to the right of the family room then leads upstairs to the Carter V’s second floor. Like its main floor, its floor plan is impeccable.

"There’s so much to love up here," says Wiebe. "A big, open loft with huge window to the left of the stairs starts the area off. Then, there’s a laundry room across the way. It has a big window on its rear wall (that) lets in more natural light, and there’s lots of space to sort laundry. It’s not just a little closet."

Likewise, the two secondary bedrooms are plenty big with double closets and huge windows that let in even more natural light. The second floor’s final space — a spacious, beautifully isolated master suite — then offers tired parents a serene spot to retire to at the end of a long day.

"The bedroom is a warm, tranquil retreat with a huge picture window and three beautiful piano windows over the bed," he says. "There’s a large walk-in closet, and the three-piece ensuite, with its walk-in shower, white thermofoil vanity with quartz countertop with dual sinks and full-length mirror with tile and wood trim is a gorgeous space."

The home is then completed by a bright, wide-open lower level that offers another 700 sq. ft. of livable space that could accommodate two more bedrooms, a rec room, bathroom and a generous storage area.

"That gives you 2,565 square feet of total living space," says Wiebe. "A lot of thought was put into the home’s design, making it the perfect, move-in-ready home for anybody seeking a home that offers space, style and luxury in a great location at a great price."
