Two-tone upper cabinets and a huge island give the kitchen in this spacious Sage Creek two-storey a unique appeal.

A multi-angled roofline and exterior clad with stone and wood gives this two-storey home a distinct modern-rustic look.

The spacious and beautifully finished dining and kitchen area is perfect for entertaining.

An 18-foot ceiling and huge picture window combine to produce a bright, airy family room.

Ask any builder, and they'll tell you it's no simple task to reconcile modern and rustic themes when conceiving a new home design.

Fritzgerald Pacag, sales representative for Foxridge Homes' show home at 60 West Plains Rd. in Sage Creek, says the company's design team got the balance just right with this design.

"It's a great design right from its appealing exterior with its angled rooflines and stone accents to its functional layout and all its high-end upgrades," he says of the 2,422 sq. ft., two-storey residence. "They thought of pretty much everything."

Thanks to a multi-angled roofline that combines beautifully with stone and wood cladding, the home's modern-rustic design is apparent the moment you lay eyes on it.

And while Foxridge's design team clearly wanted to create a distinctive, memorable home, they didn't forget that the home had to be functional, as well.

"There's no wasted space, the home's layout is very functional," says Pacag. "The foyer is large and welcoming, and leads inside to an area with den to the right and tiled hallway to the left. The area at the end of the hallway features a really cool design."

While that area starts off in relatively standard fashion with a stylish powder room on the right-hand side with a mudroom a few steps further down the hall, the standard design ends there.

Instead of closing off the area (which is most often the norm), Foxridge's design team elected to keep it open, thereby creating a unique and highly functional area.

"Opening the mudroom onto the kitchen allowed for an area built-in desk on the left hand wall," he says. "A spacious walk-in pantry was then built into the wall on the opposite side behind the kitchen. Transom windows over the desk area and bench area add extra light."

The next stop is the kitchen, which features a striking country-modern design.

White cabinets set in a warm rift oak trim up high project a distinct country-modern air, while portobello maple cabinets down low add warmth.

Mirage engineered hardwood flooring, which runs throughout the entire main floor, is at once modern and rustic with its taupe hue and subtle texture.

"The gourmet kitchen, with it two-tone cabinets, tile backsplash, quartz countertops and oversized island with breakfast bar is a beautiful but functional space," he says. "And while some dining areas are small, this one isn't. It can seat up to 12 people and is great for entertaining, with a patio door that leads out to a huge deck and professionally-landscaped backyard."

Then, there's the adjacent family room, which caps off the great room perfectly with its a wonderful combination of texture, light and volume.

"It's a beautiful space with an 18-foot ceiling, huge picture window, amazing gas fireplace with cultured stone surround and TV niche with maple plank feature wall beside it. Tons of natural light enters the great room through its picture window, and the patio door with all the glass that surrounds it."

A wide, angled staircase with tempered glass insert (and another large window placed at mezzanine level to let in more daylight) then provides effortless access to the home's upper level, holds two huge secondary bedrooms, a big laundry room and opulent master suite.

"There's plenty of room in the bedroom, which features windows on either side of the bed that let in light but maintain privacy," says Pacag. "As nice as it is, everyone falls in love with the ensuite with its heated tile floor, huge two-person tempered glass/tile shower and white floating vanity with his/her sinks. There's also a massive walk-in closet with loads of built-in storage."

He adds that few family-style homes offer such a seamless combination of style and function.

"This home is fully loaded with upgrades like a Crestron home automation system, high-end appliances, a backyard deck, cameras and speaker system. This is a unique yet functional home that offers great value in every area."
