Starting out in life is rarely easy.
Take, for example, a young professional who just landed their first job. School is finally done and they’re ready to spread their wings and get a place of their own.
The corporate ladder, however, can be steep, so there’s a good chance they are shopping with a modest budget and have a condo in mind. Affordability is a priority, but they also want a place that’s cool, somewhat luxurious and in a good location.
Jennifer Gulay of Royal LePage Prime Real Estate says she has an entry-level condo in a quiet building constructed of concrete and steel that checks off all the boxes of this ambitious wish list.
"This is the perfect place to start," she says of a 758-square-foot, one-bedroom, one-bath condo found at 180 Beliveau Rd. in St. Vital. "As starter condos go, it’s hard to find better value. The unit has been beautifully updated throughout. It shows like a show home from start to finish."
On the larger side for a one-bedroom condo, the suite’s modern charm asserts itself the moment you step into the semi-enclosed foyer.
Instead of everything being on one level, you find yourself looking at a huge living room that’s set two steps down from the foyer. There’s also a good-sized dining area to the left.
The foyer and dining room are defined smartly by tempered glass inserts anchored by black posts that contrast beautifully with the taupe walls, white ceiling and warm laminate plank flooring.
"Everything just goes so well together. The new flooring blends perfectly with the neutral colours, and lots of natural light comes in from a patio door on the living room’s rear wall," says Gulay. "And the dining area looks amazing with its wood plank feature wall and modern chandelier."
The remodelled galley kitchen also ties in perfectly.
"It features an abundance of espresso maple cabinets, quartz countertops, a double under-mounted sink with pull-out faucet, tile backsplash and newer Whirlpool appliances including an over-the range microwave that saves counter space," says Gulay, "It’s a great-looking space that’s very practical, and that’s just steps from the dining room."
A door at the end of the kitchen provides access to a space that adds to the kitchen’s utility. "There’s space to store groceries or personal items as well as a laundry area with a dual-purpose washer/dryer that saves space," she says. It’s a small feature that adds a lot of function to the suite."
Meanwhile, the four-piece bathroom located between the kitchen and primary bedroom adds another welcome bit of style to the well-kept ground floor unit.
"Like the kitchen, it offers plenty of style," she says. "There’s an espresso vanity with raised sink, big mirror and tile trim, a tile floor and tub with two-tone tile surround. It looks and feels quite luxurious."
Finally, there’s the primary bedroom, which checks in at a generous 11.5 x 11.7 feet. "You’re right next to the bathroom in a warm, relaxing space that offers a double closet, large window that lets in lots of daylight and a lighted ceiling fan that adds even more style. No matter where you go in the suite, there’s plenty of style. It doesn’t feel like an entry-level condo."
Gulay says that several added features take the suite’s value to the next level.
"Hot water heat is included in the condo fee along with a heated underground parking stall. Outside, you get a huge 300-square-foot patio, you’re just minutes from St. Vital Centre, grocery shopping and restaurants — and you’re about 20 minutes from downtown. This is a perfect starter for a young professional or young professional couple."
