Earlier this week, Koenig Granite came and installed my new granite kitchen countertops. I’m in awe.
Stunning change. From 1985 worn out laminate to beautiful Brazilian mountain granite, all in four hours.
Wow. I picked out the granite at one of their suppliers, and I couldn’t be happier. Bravo Koenig.
If you’re thinking your kitchen could use this transition, the ballpark price on this miracle is about $3,000 and worth every penny.
Even saved a few pennies by keeping my own sink. Checked into the price of a new sink, very similar to the one I have, $800 range! This one’s FINE!
But now I’ve done it. That slippery slope thing. Now what to do about the backsplash and the cupboards.
The cupboards look very dated, but they’re not worn out, so I can’t see replacing them. Too frugal for that. And that would also seem so wasteful, which would definitely go against my grain.
So? I’m thinking painting them is the only way to go, with some very current colour.
Apparently white is back in vogue again. Designer white I’m sure. White would be fine, very bright and cheerful.
Next would be painting the walls above the cupboards, which tie into the whole main-floor family dining/living room area, which are presently all the same colour, kind of a darker Mustard tinge. Go figure.
So now I’m painting the whole main floor family/dining area.
Oh my.
Then there are banisters with spindles in that area as well, that need painting, especially if I paint the cupboards white because the posts were stained to match the cupboards. I’ve been dreading repainting all those spindles, and now the posts as well.
What’s that word again? Hire. That’s it, I’ll HIRE someone to paint all of that. Brilliant. Maybe not. Too expensive, especially when I know I should just do it myself. Rats.
I hate it when "should" rears its ugly head.
Then where do the shoulds lead next? Ooooooh my.
There’s also a big entry room that has to compliment whatever colour is in the family/dining room. Now THAT I was going to paint a gorgeous jungle/mossy green colour, but depending on where the new colour scheme leads, that may not work now.
This situation needs a hero, and I’m not it!
No worries. I know a guy. A girl. A woman actually, the perfect person to call for a visit and consult. None other than Lynn Fenwick of Fenwick & Company Interior Design.
Not only will I ask for suggestions on the interior of my humble abode, ground zero being the new countertops, but about the outside of my home as well. It definitely needs a cosmetic tune-up, and a repair or two, like maybe a whole new front verandah. It just never ends. Not complaining. Grateful to have a home to spruce up and repair.
I know already Lynn’s going to tell me to get a white fridge. The previous white one kacked three years ago, so I grabbed a great used one for $200, that just happened to be black.
No, I did not get it at a garage sale. Not that there’s anything wrong with that...
Hey, a new white one was going to be around $1,400. Two hundred sounded so much better. So now I’ll probably be shopping for a new white one again. Hope I can find a place that takes trade-ins.
Where was I? Oh yeah, reno’ing the whole house because I put in new countertops. But lemme tell ya, it was so worth it.
To go a little hippie on you, going granite led me to a teeny surprise. Having this beautiful natural rock for my countertops has me feeling a little more connected to old Mother Earth. It’s both fascinating and even comforting... just to look at!
