Intergenerational Garden Program at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory
If you are a senior or a youth, enjoy meeting new people, have a passion for learning and a love for plants then the Assiniboine Park Conservatory is looking for you to participate in their new intergenerational program of guided workshops this summer.
Their goal is to bring different generations together to explore the ways plants contribute to our health and well being.
Intergenerational programs provide an opportunity to increase social skills, access new learning and mentoring opportunities, challenge common stereotypes, gain confidence and self-esteem, tap into your creative side, increase physical exercise, reduce stress and connect with nature.
Projects will include planting, harvesting and sharing the food prepared together.
The first workshop will take place in early July, the second in early August and the final workshop in late August. Each will run for two hours.
This program should interest schools, retirement and personal care homes, gardening and 4H clubs, adult day clubs and cultural centres, All programs can be carried out at either one of the following sites:
- The Abilities Garden adjacent to the Assiniboine Park Conservatory which features raised beds, wide pathways, and a brick foundation for easy access and workability (wheelchair accessible). Free parking is available near by.
- School yard
- Community Garden
- Retirement or personal care home grounds

It's garden tour time again

THE MANITOBA NATURALISTS SOCIETY (NOW KNOWN AS NATURE MANITOBA) NATURAL GARDEN TOUR: Nature Manitoba is hosting its tenth anniversary tour of nine beautiful private Winnipeg gardens and one large community property on Saturday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. While the emphasis of the tour is on native Manitoba plants, the more familiar perennials are also on display. Ticket price is $10.
