GE has come up with way to combat what it calls "stainless fatigue," introducing a new colour option for its appliances that has the look of stainless steel without the fuss.
The new matte painted finish, called slate, will blend in with pre-existing appliances, GE's director of industrial design, Lou Lenzi, says in a release.
It also resists the annoying smudges and fingerprints common to stainless steel and is much easier to clean.
The slate option joins just a couple of other manufacturers offering an alternative to stainless steel, according to appliance retailer Corbeil, including KitchenAid, which also has a painted finish, and Fisher & Paykel, which provides a coating over the stainless steel.
Prices for the GE appliances are in line with other popular models -- the free-standing electric range is $1,199 and the french door fridge is $1,649, for example. They're available later this fall at Home Depot stores and GE appliance centres.
