Question: I spilled hot wax from a candle on a carpet. I have scrubbed it with warm water and dish soap, but the wax is still stuck to the carpet. It has formed a dirty mark on the carpet as the dirt has gotten stuck in the wax. Any idea how to remove it? — A. L.
Answer: Place a single-layered brown paper bag over the wax, and using a warm iron, press the area to lift the wax, be careful not to scorch the carpet.
Move the bag around so that you don’t push wax further into the carpet.
When the wax is a distant memory, take Head & Shoulders dandruff shampoo and water, and blot it over the area to clean the rest of the mess (test on an inconspicuous area first). Rinse with water and blot.
Question: I have tried so many different cleaners to remove the stains in my toilet, but to no avail. The water level of the bowl is clear, but the top of the bowl to the water level has streaks of black. Any solutions? — Loretta
Answer: Make that toilet bowl sparkle by pouring a little shampoo or dish soap onto a pumice stone and gently, rubbing the inside of the toilet bowl to remove stains.
Or clean the toilet with a product called Iron Out, use according to the directions on the bottle.
Time saving tip: Save time when peeling potatoes. Boil water in a large pot. While water is heating; score each potato skin around the width of each potato. Boil potatoes for 15 minutes. Place potatoes in ice water. When cool enough to touch; pull off potato skins. Prepare as normal. — Jack
