Mustard plans to get some help moving this prized statue to a prominent spot in his yard.
Need some help with your social distancing?
I’m presently putting together, from various and sundry items I’ve hauled home over the years, an SDK (Social Distancing Kit), that, because I rarely go out, I may be willing to rent out from time to time, to help with the protection of others.
It’s important for all of us to step up and do our part whenever possible.
The absolute best and most effective weapon in my SDK arsenal is unquestionably the very serious long range fork (three metres), which I have no idea where I got, nor what its original use might have been.
I have a number of other scary looking "weapons" as well, but certainly none with the intimidation factor of Ol’ Forky. Safe distance guaranteed, or else.
However, while rambling about the yard in search of potential kit items, I unfortunately noticed a whole lot of tasks that need dealing with, tasks that I’ve been able to ignore up to now, because, you know, I was really busy.
Always somewhere to go, someone to see, something to do, whatever it takes to distract one from digging deep into the procrastination projects file, which, during isolation, step up and kick you right in the keester.
Some of the most pressing of those projects include: Re-staining, painting or maybe even replacing the front porch/side portico wood components because most of the protection applied to them just a few short years ago, now seems to be gone.
Don’t you hate it when the ornate spindles in your porch or deck railing dry up and fall out? I do. And what’s with the deck stain thing? There’s got to be some Kevlar-type paint/coating I can apply to those boards that will last at least a couple of decades!
Stain is a pain.
Frankly, every bit of trim and siding on the house could use a paint job. I’ll no doubt leave that till mosquito season, then flail and swear all the way through it. It’s just how I roll.
Actually, while sauntering around the yard for the 89th time, I’ve had to admit to myself that every shed I have here, needs both levelling and painting, and the sheds need shingling. Every one of them. I have four.
Not to mention the caboose, you remember I have a 1905 CN Railway caboose in my yard, needs scraping and painting, and the roll roofing applied. We’re talking work here kids. Lots of it.
Once this whole virus thing is over, I have to really amp up my ignoring skills again, or this "regular maintenance" thing could really get out of control.
One chore I truly must do, which I’m actually looking forward to, is move the beautiful statue I have at the back corner of my yard to a featured spot out front of the house somewhere. I put her back there when I first got her, then for whatever reason just left her there. But no more. Her time to shine has come! Gonna be calling on son Lyle’s muscles for this one. She’s very heavy.
Tell you one thing my walkabouts reminded me of that may be helpful.
I wish I’d planted a lot more trees and bushes over the years. I’d have had a forest by now. I am going to look into planting a number of bushes that remain green all year round, and maybe a few evergreens too. Whatever it takes to replace some of that glaring ice cold wicked winter WHITE!. But I’m not bitter.
So many projects, and now no good excuses not to do them. None.
Darn! And then some.
