No matter how much you like your home, there always seems to be one space that, well, just doesn't work.
In many cases, that space is an undersized bathroom. It seems no matter how much you wrack your brain, you can't come up with a solution to bring newfound function to the area.
Or, so you thought.
According to Aqua-Tech's resident interior decorator, Lee-Ellen Green, there is hope for any small space; all you have to do is think outside the box.
"In this case, the owners just weren't happy with how their ensuite was laid out," she said, adding she was called in when the owners decided they weren't satisfied with the design proposal they received from another renovation firm. "After years of using a space with an inefficient, dated layout, they decided they wanted to make a change."
Little wonder a change was in order. In its former state, the -- shall we say -- compact ensuite was an ergonomic disaster. The toilet was jammed against the wall, and while a pedestal sink opened up the space, it offered nothing in the way of storage.
There was also a shower stall, but it was just that -- a place to shower, towel off and then get on with your day, an amenity that left the owners longing for at least a little touch of luxury.
Green's arrival thankfully brought them that touch of luxury in more than just one area.
"It actually didn't take long for me to see the potential in the space -- it was just a matter of reorienting things," she said. "I saw the design right away -- a shower immediately to the right, with a maple vanity with quartz countertop next to it on the right-hand wall. The toilet would be placed in the left-hand corner, which would provide ample room to move around."
Not only did a new floor plan bring new life to the space, but so too did a rich collection of finishing materials -- a heated (taupe) plank tile floor, tile trim around the sink and shower and a maple vanity that added warmth and storage space.
Now, the owners enjoy getting up each morning to get ready for work in an ensuite that's dynamic, rather than drab and dated.
"It was well worth the investment," they said. "It's something you use every day. With a move here and there and some beautiful finishing materials, it was like, 'voila!' -- a gorgeous space with so much room, function and beauty. We enjoy using the ensuite every day. There's just no comparison. It helps us start off the day on the right foot. We're so glad that Lee-Ellen and her team came along when they did."
Green said Aqua-Tech's bathroom renovation team offers something other companies can't: convenience and superb quality control.
"We have all the different trades available under one roof, along with all the latest bathroom accessories," she said. "We'll co-ordinate all the trades to make the process easier on you. "And because we always use the same trades, the quality of the renovation is always going to be consistently high, and beautiful."
