A serene river runs past it

La Salle home a haven for outdoors enthusiasts

Floor-to-ceiling windows on the family room’s rear wall at 70 Waterview Dr. in La Salle provide a picture-perfect view of the Seine River.

Downstairs, there’s around 1,500 sq. ft. of finished space that features a nine-foot ceiling and structural wood floor, which allows for cork flooring throughout the entire area.

The kitchen offers a huge, functional space that can easily accommodate several cooks when you’re entertaining.

A two-car garage adds to the home’s functionality.

Ask homeowners why they built their home in a certain area, and they’ll provide a variety of answers.

Glen MacAngus of Royal LePage Top Producers says the outgoing owners of 70 Waterview Dr. — a striking 1,870-sq.-ft. bungalow found on a serene riverfront lot in La Salle — chose to build on a huge riverfront lot for a very specific reason.

"They chose it for the setting and the amazing river view," he says. "The lot is just positioned in a perfect spot. This lot might be the best lot on the street."

It was then up to the builders — in this case, Paradigm Custom Homes — to build a home that took full advantage of the pristine setting.

MacAngus says Paradigm’s design team delivered, big time.

"It’s an absolutely gorgeous home from start to finish. With its stucco and stone exterior, it blends in perfectly with the surrounding scenery. Inside, it features a rustic-modern design that’s warm, inviting and does a great job of bringing the outdoors inside."

Two things happen the moment you step into the home’s wide, tiled foyer.

First, you’re enveloped in warmth.

Second, floor-to-ceiling windows on the family room’s rear wall — ceiling height is 12 feet — provide a picture-perfect view of the Seine River behind the home. Sunlight — which comes from a southeast direction — also filters lazily into the family room, dining room and kitchen.

"Right now, the view looks like a postcard of a classic Canadian winter scene with the snow, trees and river," he says. "In the winter, people put skating rinks on the river, and cross-country skiers, snowmobilers and hikers enjoy the outdoors. The view is even more spectacular during the summer, when people fish off the shore or go canoeing or kayaking in the river."

That serene feel then carries into the great room, which features just the right amount of openness and division.

A front-oriented formal dining room defined by pillars on either side sits to the right of the foyer, just steps from the kitchen, while the family room — with its cinnamon-stained maple entertainment and gas fireplace with black-grey tile surround — invites you to sit down and relax (or visit) for a spell.

Meanwhile, the adjacent island kitchen also possesses its own special charm, MacAngus says.

"It’s a huge, functional space that can easily accommodate several cooks when you’re entertaining. Not only that, but it’s beautifully finished. I love the two-tone maple cabinets, as well as the tan backsplash, grey/black granite countertops and all the function that the island provides."

Not to be overlooked is a patio door next to the dinette area at the front of the kitchen.

Turns out, it leads to a very special space — a screened-in sunroom.

"It’s a perfect spot to dine or relax in during the summer," he says. "You get a great view of the yard and river, but you don’t have to deal with any mosquitoes or flies. It’s your own quiet spot next to the river."

The same could be said about the master suite, which was set down its own private hallway to the left of the family room.

"A patio door with sidelights on either side on its rear wall lets in tons of natural light, frames the river and also gives you access to a private balcony that looks out over the river. There’s also a spa-like ensuite with heated tile floor, custom glass/tile shower, jetted soaker tub set in tile beneath a huge obscured glass window, floating maple vanity and separate walk-in closet."

Downstairs, there’s around 1,500 sq. ft. of beautifully finished space to enjoy.

"It features a nine-foot ceiling and structural wood floor, which allowed for gorgeous cork flooring to be laid through the entire area. There’s a media area, games area, wing that holds two big bedrooms and a four-piece bath, flex space and huge mechanical/storage room," MacAngus says. "It’s a perfect area for teenagers who want privacy and their own space to hang out in."

He adds that the home’s location is countrified yet convenient.

"You’re not far from amenities in the city or La Salle, yet you’re in a nice, tranquil spot a bit off the beaten track. If you love nature and the outdoors, it could be for you. It’s a special haven, inside and out."
