A two-tone beamed ceiling is a brilliant design touch that really sets off the living room.

This large bungalow features a low-maintenance acrylic stucco and cultured stone exterior.

The lower level features a rec room, games area, kitchen, workout room and four bedrooms.

At one time or another we’ve all thought about what we’d do if we had the budget to build our dream home.

In a high percentage of cases, people would elect to build in a spot that’s beautiful and secluded — yet close to the city.

For many the home would also be a sprawling bungalow with all the bells and whistles.

Blair Sonnichsen of Royal LePage Dynamic Real Estate says 231 Christie Road is that kind of home and more.

"It truly has the feel of a country estate," he says. "The setting is incredible. You drive down to the home on a road bordered by mature trees, then arrive at a huge, elevated lot that’s surrounded by more mature trees. The home backs onto the river, and the views are spectacular due to the lot’s significant elevation."

And while the 3,710 sq. ft., seven-bedroom, six-bath bungalow feels like it’s way out in the country, it’s not.

"You’re just a few minutes from the Perimeter and maybe five minutes from South St. Vital and all its amenities," says Sonnichsen. "Once you’re out at the Perimeter, you can go anywhere and get there quite quickly."

That said, you don’t necessarily feel like going anywhere once you set foot inside the home.

Sonnichsen says a fabulous foyer starts the immaculate home off in a grand, tasteful manner.

"It’s a very inviting space with a gorgeous 13-foot barrel ceiling with cultured stone feature walls on either side. A ceramic tile floor wrapped in maple hardwood flooring adds an extra touch of elegance and speaks to the quality of the finishes you find throughout the home."

The spectacular foyer then transitions smoothly into the home’s main living area.

Directly ahead is the living room, which comes with a 14-foot ceiling that features white beams that pop on the taupe ceiling. The beams are matched by a series of white pillars that subtly separate the living room from the expansive kitchen.

"A huge picture window allows for a wonderful view of the landscaped yard, trees and river," he says. "And the built-in entertainment unit is also very impressive."

Then, there’s the kitchen. A chef’s dream, it’s a magnificent space in every way.

"You have all the space you need to create and entertain," notes Sonnichsen. "There’s banks of Cherrywood drawers and cabinets, granite countertops, a beautiful multi-coloured tile backsplash, informal dining area next to it that seats 10, a wet bar — and two-sided fireplace with cultured stone surround that separates the kitchen and dining area from two other spaces."

Those spaces include a sitting lounge behind the fireplace and a four-season sunroom to the left.

"The river views from the sitting lounge are tremendous, as are the views from the huge sunroom, which offers access to a wrap around deck, barbecue area and patio area; there’s also a fully-serviced gazebo at the rear of the yard. Again, the views are gorgeous."

So too is the master suite, which caps off the main level in efficient, elegant fashion with its space, privacy and isolated ensuite.

"It’s a spa-like space with heated tile floor, steam shower with jet sprays, beautifully-tiled bubble jet soaker tub and floating cherry vanity with granite countertop, his/her sinks and travertine tile accent wall," he says. "There’s also a big walk-in closet, as well."

Head downstairs, and with over 3,500 sq. ft. of livable space, the never-ending basement with a structural wood floor nearly doubles the home’s livable space.

"There’s a rec room with games area, gym, designated media room and second full kitchen," Sonnichsen says. "As well, there are four more bedrooms that share Jack-and-Jill bathrooms. There’s also a laundry room, mechanical room with energy-efficient geothermal furnace and plenty of storage space."

He adds if the home were to be summed it in one word, it would be quality.

"The quality of construction is impeccable, as are the finishes; everything was done right in constructing and designing this home. More importantly, the home offers exceptional quality of life with its livability and location. This well-cared-for, low-maintenance home is ideal for a family looking for a luxurious home that has a country feel, yet is close to the city."
