The spacious in-law suite’s living area features a vaulted ceiling and massive windows.

The sprawling 4,250-sq.-ft., two-storey home has been completely remodelled and features a 1,000-sq.-ft. in-law suite.

Over the past decade or so, an increasing number of people have chosen to build luxury homes in south Charleswood.

In particular, many opt to build on Liberty Street due to its close proximity to Kenaston Avenue, its huge lots and its serene, countrified atmosphere.

And while many of the homes on the street are newer, there are also some older homes that populate the quiet, isolated roadway.

One of those homes, a sprawling two-storey home at 1314 Liberty St., built in 1987, was completely remodelled from 2017 to 2019, says Dean Fletcher of Century 21 Carrie Realty.

"It was actually overhauled by the outgoing owners so that one of their parents could come to live with them," he says. "Not only did they put in a separate in-law suite, but they opened up the home and levelled the floor in certain areas to make it more accessible. They also remodelled the kitchen, dining room and bathrooms, put in high-end flooring and more."

Thanks to the extensive renovations, the 33-year-old home now sports a like-new feel, offering contemporary finishes and a user-friendly floor plan that’s perfectly suited to a young, active family or a multi-generational family.

Fletcher says the 1,000-sq.-ft. in-law suite would work perfectly for a multi-generational family.

"When the in-law suite was added on, it was properly zoned, and all the proper permits were pulled," he says. "It’s private, handicap accessible and offers a bedroom, den, living room, kitchen and gorgeous cathedral ceiling with a huge window up high and more windows on the surrounding walls. The bedroom has a patio door that leads out to a private patio."

Turns out, the home’s remaining 3,250 sq. ft. is just as special as the spectacular in-law suite. Not only is there ample space for large families to move about freely, but each space is bright, generously-proportioned and beautifully finished.

Entry comes via an inviting foyer with a gorgeous curved staircase and lovely chandelier that hangs down from the 18-foot ceiling above. The living room to its left comes with a wood-burning fireplace and huge bay window that lets in loads of natural light and sweeping views of the wide-open spaces surrounding the home.

Head to the back of the home, treading on warm, hand-scraped maple hardwoods as you make your way past the grand staircase, and you come to a wide entryway.

It leads into a open-concept great room that features a family room to the right, kitchen in the centre and formal dining room to the left of the kitchen. Clearly, this is the heart of the home.

"The family room was raised up so it would be on the same level as the kitchen," says Fletcher. "Sliding patio doors between it and the kitchen lead out to a backyard deck that looks out onto the backyard and countryside behind it. Both the kitchen and formal dining room are phenomenal spaces."

As good as the formal dining room is — it comes with a wet bar with fridge and ice maker and a stunning countryside view — the kitchen is the main floor’s piece de resistance.

"It’s a massive area that features a huge quartz island with waterfall ends, quartz countertops, tons of country-white cabinets, built-in cooktop, a double oven, two sinks and new appliances. It has a nice country-modern feel to it."

The same could be said for the master suite, which, along with three more bedrooms and a smashing three-piece bath (with heated tile floor), fills out the light-filled second floor.

"It’s a huge space that comes with an electric fireplace and east-facing bay window that lets in the sun in the morning," he says. "There’s also a large walk-in closet and amazing six-piece ensuite with air jet tub, heated tile floor and vanity with quartz countertop and his/her sinks."

Downstairs, the fully-finished basement offers a bathroom with sauna, flex room, den, plenty of storage and a newer high-efficient furnace and a pair of panels that provide 400-amp service. A high-tech monitoring system also monitors water levels in the home’s cistern, which provides it with water.

Multi-generational families that are considering buying a home in the Bridgwater neighbourhoods or South Pointe should take a long look at 1314 Liberty St., says Fletcher.

"With its condition, size, livability and location, you’re on a huge, private lot in a quiet area, yet you’re only minutes from all sorts of amenities on Kenaston Avenue, you’re getting far more than you would in Bridgwater or South Pointe. This home is a hidden gem that’s a must-see with all it has to offer."
