In life, everything is relative.
Take, for example, the number 27. If someone happens to be 27 years old, they’re thought of as being young.
Apply that same number to the age of a home, and it’s all too easy to come to another conclusion: that a home could be a stylistic holdover from the late 1980s (or 1989, to be exact).
That’s not the case with 20 Springwood Bay in Steinbach, said RE/MAX Performance Realty’s Stephen Olyniuk, who’s marketing the home with his wife, Alicia.
"This home was extensively remodelled in 2013," he said. "No expense was spared. All the finishes are high-end throughout the home. They all come together to give it a very contemporary feel. It feels like a newer home, not like a home that was built in 1989."
That like-new, contemporary feel starts right in the home’s foyer, said Olyniuk. "It features a tiled grand foyer with soaring ceiling and 20-foot-high stone feature wall with French doors that lead into the living room/dining room. To the right is a beautiful oak staircase that adds to the grand, rich feel."
The foyer branches off in two directions: left to the dining room/living room, and right to an entrance that leads to the kitchen/family room area. While you can’t lose heading in either direction, taking door No. 2 — the doorway to the kitchen — reveals a thoroughly modern kitchen and sunken family room adjacent two a pair of amazing spaces (one outside, the other inside).
First, there’s the kitchen, which can be described best by a single word.
"It’s magnificent," Olyniuk said. "With its quartz countertops, work-of-art travertine tile backsplash, dovetailed, two-tone maple cabinetry, tile floor and Frigidaire Professional Series (stainless) appliances, it’s an absolute dream kitchen. There’s also an island with storage and seating for two next to a big bay window, and a double under-mounted sink beneath a window that gives you a great view of the incredible backyard."
(More about the yard later.)
One step down is a sunken family room with newer hand-scraped oak hardwoods, a gas fireplace with oak mantel and tile hearth — and patio doors on it’s rear wall lead to the gem of a backyard.
"It will make you want summer never to end with its deck with hot tub and in-ground pool with stamped concrete surround," said Olyniuk. "It’s an oasis with loads of space to relax, and perennials that bloom during the summer."
Meanwhile, a brief hallway to the rear of the family room leads to a side entrance — and a pair of functional spaces. "There’s a main-floor powder room on one side and an office on the other. The office is actually a converted laundry room. If you need office space, you could keep it that way. If you want a main-floor laundry, all the hookups are still there so it could be converted back without a problem."
Meander back the other way through the richly finished (and spacious) kitchen, and you arrive at another doorway that leads to the living room/dining room. The dining room — which can seat six to 12 — is elegantly defined by a chandelier with decorative white medallion on the ceiling, and features a patio door that provides seamless access to the pool.
At the other end of the living room, defined by a vaulted ceiling. A huge, three-piece picture window on the front wall allows loads of light to stream into the living room, making for a space that offers a perfect balance of brightness and warmth. "The distressed oak hardwoods are just gorgeous," Olyniuk said. "It’s also very spacious. When you combine it with the gourmet kitchen, the fact that you can access to the backyard through the patio doors in the dining room and family room, you have a home that lends itself very nicely to entertaining."
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, plus a well-appointed main bath with tile floor, vanity with dual sinks and tub/shower combination. Both secondary bedrooms are spacious with large windows and double closets, and the master suite is (there’s that word again) magnificent. "For starters, you won’t see too many master suites that come with a private balcony that overlooks the pool and deck in the backyard. It also comes with a four-piece ensuite with heated (taupe) tile floor, one-piece tub/tile surround and huge walk-in closet with enough room that the man of the house will even have space for his clothes," he said.
The immaculate home is capped off in functional style by a fully-developed basement that offers about 1,000 square feet of livable space. "You get a media area with built-in entertainment unit, wet bar, exercise/games area, a huge fourth bedroom — and a bathroom with jetted soaker tub, tile floor and pedestal sink. The bedroom is perfect for a teenager, and the media area is perfect for getting the family together for weekly movie nights."
Alicia Olyniuk said the solid, well-maintained home has much to offer a growing family. "It’s on a quiet bay with no through traffic, there’s just under 3,000 square feet of total living space, it has a resort-like backyard, and the home is move-in-ready. Everything’s been done. All there is to do is move in, and enjoy."
