If there’s one thing people crave in a home, it’s privacy.
Yet when you live in the city, privacy can be hard to come by, whether you live in an older or newer neighbourhood.
For better or worse, there always seems to be at least one neighbour that causes a disturbance, whether it be coming and going with a loud motorcycle, cranking up pounding music or incessantly tinkering with power tools.
Consequently, many families dream of living on a generous plot of land in a quiet place where disturbances will be few and far between. In other words, their dream is to live in a countrified area outside the city. As idyllic as the concept sounds, it also brings its own set of challenges.
Buy a home in a bedroom community and there can be a commute of anywhere from 10 minutes to half an hour into the city. And while many people just accept that commute as part of the tradeoff for peaceful living in a more remote place, the drive can get aggravating after awhile.
Melanie Vincent of Sutton Group – Kilkenny Real Estate wants to show off a property at 57020 Murdock Road in Springfield, Man. that she says simultaneously offers country comfort and city convenience.
“The important thing to note is that while this home is in Springfield, it’s actually located inside the Perimeter,” she says of the 2,650 sq. ft. bungalow, which was custom built in 2023. “You’re in your own little world on a private four-acre lot, yet you’re just a short drive from the city.”
Perhaps the best part of arriving at the home — aside from the feeling of ease that comes from being surrounded by greenspace and trees with no neighbours in sight — is the fact that it is just three years old. This is no tired, ’70s abode; it’s a cutting-edge home with all the bells and whistles and a wonderful collection of thoughtfully crafted spaces
“You’re greeted by a grand entryway the instant you step inside,” says Vincent. “A beautiful tile floor and modern light fixture immediately create a feeling of texture and style. The home was designed with elegance, comfort and functionality in mind.”
It also possesses a welcoming, user-friendly feel. Large, well-placed windows let in lots of light, while the open-concept floor plan promotes seamless flow between spaces.
Because the home is 2,650 sq. ft., there’s plenty of room to move. And plenty of style.
“Beautifully designed living room and dining room spaces placed at the front of the home make it perfect for entertaining,” Vincent notes. “And while they get the home off to a great start, the main living area gets even better as you walk deeper into the home.”
It certainly does, as a quartet of spaces combine to take the main living area’s functionality quotient up another two to three notches.
“First, there’s a chef-inspired island kitchen that features high-end appliances, such as an induction cooktop and a built-in oven and microwave. The finishes are premium. Veined stone countertops and go beautifully with the dark cabinets, creating a luxurious look and feel.”
There’s also a space to the rear of the kitchen that adds extra function, she adds.
“A spice kitchen gives you extra room to cook when entertaining, or to create speciality meals in. It has the same finishes as the kitchen, and has a sink, window, dishwasher and room for a refrigerator.”
Then, there’s the striking great room, which has a door on its rear wall.
“It’s a wonderful space with a beautiful entertainment unit that’s perfect for visiting with guests after dinner,” Vincent says. “And the door on its rear wall connects to a huge four-season sunroom that looks out onto the lovely backyard and wide-open spaces beyond. The backyard is huge, fenced, west-facing, and comes with a 30-foot cement pad that’s ready for a hot tub.”
Accommodations are plentiful, with no fewer than seven bedrooms to be found throughout the main and lower levels of the home.
“They’re all huge, with two of them being primary bedrooms,” she says, adding that the home comes with four full baths. “This home, which also comes with a massive, fully finished lower level, is perfect for a large family, or even a multi-generational family. It’s a special family home that provides a peaceful country feel in a luxury home that’s just minutes from city amenities.”
